Job 37-39 | Then the LORD Spoke Out of the Whirlwind

Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said: who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? Dress for action like a man. I will question you and you make it known to me. Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? And for two full chapters, God asks Job seventy questions about the cosmos, the weather, and the animal world — every one unanswerable. No explanation. No apology. No justification. Just questions. And the questions do something to Job that thirty-seven chapters of human argument could not do.
