Flooding in Hillsborough, NB - by Hillsborough Flood Waters Group

An overview of the recurring flooding in the Village of Hillsborough, NB. This flooding is caused mainly by an outdated, undersized aboideau. The aboideau consists of qty 4 - 36-inch pipes and is the only escape for water from the Gray Brook watershed into the Petitcodiac River. The aboideau is currently sized three times (3x) smaller than the upstream culverts at Main Street (Route 114). The undersized aboideau creates a bottle-neck in the drainage system, causing water levels to rise and flood the Village during heavy rain events.
