"After the death of Naboth, the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbean: 'Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel. He is in Samaria, in Naboth's vineyard, where he went down to take possession of it. And you shall say to him, 'Thus says the Lord: Have you not murdered and plundered the vineyard?' Then you shall say to him, 'Thus says the Lord: Where the dogs licked up the blood of Naboth, the dogs will lick up your blood.'" Ahab answered Elijah, "You have found me, my enemy." Then Elijah said, "I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do evil in the sight of the Lord. Behold, I will bring evil upon you, and I will cut off and cut off from the house of Ahab every child, both slave and free, in Israel. And I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of The house of Baasha, son of Ahijah, because you have provoked Me to anger and have also made Israel sin. Also concerning Jezebel, thus says the Lord: 'Dogs will devour Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel. Dogs will devour Ahab's dead in the city, and the birds of the air will devour Ahab's dead in the field.'" Surely there was no one like Ahab, who sold himself to do what was evil in the sight of the Lord. For his wife Jezebel had induced him to do this. He had done very shamefully, serving idols, just as the Amorites did, whom the Lord had dispossessed in favor of the Israelites. When Ahab heard these words, he tore his clothes, put sackcloth on his body, and fasted. He also lay in sackcloth and walked slowly. Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbean: "Surely you have seen that Ahab has humbled himself. before Me? Because he humbled himself before Me, I will not bring disaster on him during his lifetime. I will bring disaster on his descendants during the lifetime of his son."
