국립국악원 무용단 '강강술래' (Dance_National Gugak Center Dance Company - Ganggangsullae)

강강술래는 풍작과 풍요를 기원하기 위하여 전라남도 해안 지역에서 연행하던 민속놀이다. 주로 추석이나 정월 대보름에 마을의 부녀자들이 모여 손을 잡고 동그랗게 원을 만들어 춤을 추며 ‘강강술래’ 노래를 한다. 원무를 추며 노래를 하다가 남생이놀이, 기와 밟기, 덕석몰이, 청어 엮기, 술래잡기 등 농어촌 생활을 묘사한 놀이를 하는 것이 특징이다. 강강술래의 역사는 조선 시대 이전으로 추정되는데, 오랜 세월 사람들에 의해 전해진 한반도의 역사와 문화가 반영된 고유의 종합예술이다. Ganggangsullae is a traditional Korean folk dance originating in the coastal regions of Jeollanam-do, where it was performed to pray for abundant harvests and communal well-being. Traditionally held on major seasonal occasions such as Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) and Jeongwol Daeboreum, the first full moon of the lunar year. During the performance, village women gather, hold hands, and form a large circle, singing the Ganggangsullae refrain as they dance. The circular dance is interwoven with a variety of playful episodes—such as turtle play, roof-tile stepping, straw-mat rolling, herring braiding, and hide-and-seek—that vividly portray the rhythms of everyday life in farming and fishing communities.
