Two people can go through the same trial. One may emerge stronger, while the other becomes much weaker. It all depends on whether we allow setbacks to draw us closer to Jesus or further away from Him. Jesus Sleeps in the Boat The disciples were experienced fishermen, but this storm surpassed anything they had ever seen. And in the midst of the storm, Jesus slept on the only pillow (the one reserved for the helmsman). The disciples cried out, "Master, do you not care that we perish?" They forgot that Jesus was with them. Ellen White writes, "In their efforts to save themselves, they forgot that Jesus was on board." It is in the storms of life that God performs His greatest miracles. A Touch of Faith The woman with the issue of blood could have remained in bed, feeling self-pity and despair. But she heard about Jesus and decided, "I will arise. I believe that Jesus will heal me today." She deliberately pushed through the crowd and touched His garment. Jesus stopped and called her "daughter." The Savior knows how to distinguish the touch of faith from the casual touches of the careless crowd. He invites us to come to Him, even when we are exhausted. Job's Lesson Job lost everything in a single day. His wife said, "Curse God and die." His friends accused him of secret sins. But Job did not curse God. He said, "Oh, that my words were written down!... I know that my Redeemer lives" (Job 19:23-25). And again: "Behold, when I go forward, He is not there; when I go back, I see Him not... yet He knows my way; "Let Him try me, and I will come forth as gold" (Job 23:8-10). The key to victory in trials is to know that God is near, even when we cannot see Him. The Road to Emmaus – Two Perspectives For the disciples walking to Emmaus, Jesus' crucifixion was the end of all hope. They thought, "We had hoped that this was he who should redeem Israel" (Luke 24:21). But for Jesus, risen from the dead, it was the greatest triumph in the history of the earth. The same situation, but two completely different perspectives. When Jesus explained the Scriptures to them, beginning with Moses and all the prophets, their hearts were set on fire. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17). Ellen White's Dream In a moment of deepest despair, she dreamed that she was looking for Jesus. And when she found Him, He placed His hand on her head and said, "Fear not." This dream gave her hope and taught her the simplicity of trusting in God. God does not abandon us in suffering and heartache. One day, we will meet Him face to face in a land where there is no sickness, suffering, or death. ✅ Summary The lesson "When Failures Happen" reminds us that storms, illnesses, financial difficulties, and the loss of loved ones are inevitable. But these failures should not destroy our relationship with God. Jesus sleeps in the boat of your life—not because He doesn't care, but because He wants you to learn to trust Him. He invites you to come to Him with all your burdens (Matthew 11:28-29). Trust Him, even when you don't understand. Study the Scriptures to strengthen your faith.
