A historical and architectural reserve was opened on the site of the ancient monastery in Hajigabul. Today, it has become a pilgrimage site for tourists and those who believe in its healing powers. Countless ancient archaeological sites can be found throughout Azerbaijan, reflecting various stages of the country's history. A significant number of these are shrines, mausoleums, and other structures erected by followers of Sufism. As is well known, Sufis lived in special monasteries—khanakas (khanagahs)—which included a mosque, mausoleums, and living quarters. One of the oldest and most significant of these in Azerbaijan is located in the Hajigabul district—the Pir Huseyn Khanagah. Abode of Miracles Zaur Jafarov, a researcher at the Khanagah Pir Huseyn Historical and Architectural Reserve, told Sputnik Azerbaijan's regional correspondent that in 1318, Uzbek, Khan of the Golden Horde, after conquering Shirvan, visited this monastery. According to legend, Uzbek Khan witnessed many miracles in the khanaka. Afterward, he ordered his emirs to free the captives and return the stolen treasures to the people. The khanaka remained a place of worship and hope for centuries. Pilgrims still come here to pray, make sacrifices, and ask for wishes to be fulfilled. According to Jafarov, he himself has witnessed miracles here many times: "Two years ago, a couple from the Hajigabul village of Udulu, who had been childless for 24 years, came here. The woman began asking for a child at the shrine, and then fell asleep for an hour. After some time, the couple's dream came true: they had a child. According to our interlocutor, hundreds of people who could not speak have found healing at this shrine. For example, Aydin Azimov, a resident of the Beylagan district and a regular visitor to the khanaka, told a story about his son: "My boy was six years old, but he didn't speak. The treatment prescribed by the doctors didn't help. Then we were told about this place, and we brought our son here. When we returned home from here, the child, getting out of the car, asked, 'Daddy, should I open the door?' It's hard to put into words what we felt at that moment. We began to cry with joy. That's how we saw the miracle this sanctuary offers." Two Wells According to Jafarov, the monastery still has two wells with clean, tasty drinking water. Remarkably, the water level in the well remains constant, neither rising nor falling. Village residents once tried to pump the well to clean it, but they were unsuccessful, says a complex employee, and no matter how much they pumped, the water in the well remained constant. In 2005, after a 67-kilometer-long tunnel from the khanaka's underground to the city of Shamakhi was discovered, the entire area was declared a historical and architectural reserve. Following restoration work carried out by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (now the Ministry of Culture), the complex reopened to the public in 2007. This monument has a very ancient and interesting history.
