2026 Subaru Solterra | POV Test Drive
2026 Subaru Solterra XT Touring POV test drive, spirited drive, highway drive, 0-60 acceleration, review. We all know why the Subaru Solterra is here. It’s not here because Subaru wanted to build an EV, it’s here because they had to. It’s purely a compliance vehicle, so obviously there is nothing ground breaking or exciting about it. I mean sales numbers only prove that, but for 2026 they wanted to give this thing another try and there are some changes. So, what’s new? First of all, Subaru and Toyota focused on efficiency of the electric drivetrain, something that both, the Solterra and the BZ has struggled with. We have an upgraded charging system with faster charging (10% to 80% in about 35 minutes using fast charging) and increased range - up to 288 miles versus 227 miles that the pre-refresh model offered. Second, we have new styling. I think it looks more coherent and not as awkward, so that’s a step in the right direction. There’s also been some changes to the suspension and improvements to reduce NVH. Also new for 2026 is the XT model that we're testing. It offers 338 hp and 0 to 60 under 5 seconds. We also have a less powerful, 233 hp option. Both variants are obviously AWD with 2 electric motors, one on each axle. Pricing starts at around $38,000 for the entry Premium model, and tops at around $48,000 for the tested XT Touring.
