chad morgan on australia's amateur hour

Chadwick William 'Chad' Morgan was born on 11 February 1933 in Wondai, Queensland. He worked in Duckinwilla Creek (35 miles from Maryborough) as a timber cutter before being drafted into the Air Force as a cook. Chad was discovered on Australia's Amateur Hour in 1952 during a broadcast from Brisbane's Lyric Theatre. Host Terry Dear introduced Chad's theme song, "I'm the Sheik of Scrubby Creek". A big hit with the public, Chad was immediately signed up by EMI's Regal Zonophone label and "The Sheik" was released on a 78 rpm record. Over fifty years later Chad was still performing the same song on-stage.
