Tabanka Achada Grande 1993 Pt. 1

This footage was shot by Josef Glowa and Susan Hurley-Glowa in Achade Grande, Praia, Cabo Verde on July 10, 1993. It is Pt. 1 of 2. It was filmed with the permission of the main participants as part of ethnomusicology research funded by a Fulbright Grant in 1992-93.. I was doing for my PhD at Brown University. https://scholarworks.utrgv.edu/mus_et.... I was encouraged to go to Santiago to study "the real traditions" by my good friend, Norberto Tavares. I later made a film (   • Journey of a Badiu: The Story of Cape Verd...  ) and wrote a book about Tavares. I wasn't able to include the research that I did on Tabanka in my dissertation, unfortunately!
