On March 12, 2026, I finally began my cycling trip through Brazil. I left Camping Falcão, in Ponta Grande, Porto Seguro (BA), heading towards Santo André, a district of Santa Cruz Cabrália, where I planned to spend the night. But before arriving there, the day still had many things in store. I cycled about 12 km to Santa Cruz Cabrália. I arrived around lunchtime and stopped at the Vila Matter restaurant, by the sea. The place is beautiful, super cozy, with excellent service—and the food was delicious. After lunch I went to the post office to resolve an important mission: to send some things that I realized I wasn't using much on the trip and that were weighing down the bike quite a bit. I sent a leather bag, a pair of boots, a hat, a sweater, and a hiking/camping backpack. With my bike lighter, I met my fellow cyclist Robson in the historic center of Santa Cruz Cabrália. We stayed there chatting and even ate jackfruit picked straight from the tree—so fresh! (There's a video of that on my profile too.) Later, around 6 pm, I ate an acarajé and took the ferry to Santo André. The crossing is quick, about 15 minutes. If I'm not mistaken, I paid between R$6 and R$8 to cross with my bike. My plan was to arrive in Santo André and find somewhere to set up my hammock or tent. But that's when the itinerary changed completely. While waiting for the ferry, I met Dona Leide, who has a radiant energy, full of joy and peace. The conversation started because she saw my camera stick attached to my backpack and asked if I worked with filmmaking. I explained that I produce content and that I was starting a bicycle trip through Brazil. I showed her my bike, told her a little about the trip… and she was enchanted by the story. At one point she asked where I would be sleeping that night. When I said I didn't know yet, she mentioned she had an Airbnb available—and ended up offering me a place for a super affordable price. In the end, that night that was supposed to be spent in a hammock or tent turned into an unexpected overnight stay thanks to a totally random encounter along the way.
