5 PICKUPS aus den 60ern - heute unbezahlbar!

Ford F-150, Dodge RAM, Toyota Hilux – everyone knows these names. But do you know what Germany was truly built on? Not with American chrome behemoths or gleaming lifestyle trucks, but with honest, robust, and virtually indestructible pickup trucks from Germany. Vehicles that transported building materials, brought tradespeople to construction sites, and supported bakers, butchers, farmers, and mail carriers – without them, the German economic miracle would never have happened. In this video, I'll show you the five most important German pickup trucks of the 1960s. After watching this video, you'll look at these vehicles at classic car shows with different eyes. I'll also reveal the current collector value of each vehicle – and you'll be amazed. We start at number 5 with the Tempo Hanseat and its successor, the Tempo Matador, from Hamburg. A vehicle with real character: front-wheel drive in a commercial vehicle in the early 1950s – a true revolution. The Matador was so popular that the concept survived the brand's demise and even lives on today in India as a three-wheeled cargo vehicle in the form of a rickshaw. Well-preserved Tempo flatbed trucks fetch between €18,000 and €20,000 on the classic car market, while restored versions go for between €15,000 and €19,000. Number 4 takes us behind the Iron Curtain to East Germany: the Barkas B 1000 flatbed truck from Karl-Marx-Stadt. Powered by a three-cylinder two-stroke engine and front-wheel drive, it was built from 1961 to 1990 – 29 years non-stop, with 175,000 units produced. The Barkas transported bread and cement, spare parts and medicine, and was the unsung hero on the other side of the border. Basic, roadworthy Barkas pickup trucks are available from €5,000 to €10,000, while fully restored examples in original East German turquoise paint fetch €15,000 to over €20,000. Third place goes to the DKW Schnellaster pickup truck from Ingolstadt. It was available from 1949 with front-wheel drive and a revolutionary Dynastart system – a combined starter and generator in one unit. It was built from 1949 to 1962 without any fundamental changes, because it simply worked. Basic pickup truck versions range from €18,000 to €25,000, while restored panel van versions have recently been traded for up to €52,000. Second place goes to the Hanomag Kurier from Hanover. From 1961 to 1967, it rolled off the assembly line and was one of the most versatile workhorses of the German economic miracle – compact for narrow old town streets, powerful for heavy loads, and versatile for tradespeople, fire departments, and delivery services. You can find roadworthy examples for between €4,500 and €10,000, and faithfully restored pickups with low mileage for €15,000 to €20,000. In first place is no surprise: the Volkswagen T1 pickup truck – the rarest of all the VW Transporters, the workhorse that became an icon. Available as a single cab since 1952, and from 1959 as a double cab (DoKa) with six seats and a cargo bed simultaneously. The cargo bed was lined with oak slats and featured folding sideboards – all well-designed, practical, and honest. In 1962 alone, Volkswagen built 38,000 of these pickups. The current median market value is around €54,000. Well-preserved double-cab pickups from German manufacturers are listed for €55,000 to €88,000, and examples in mint condition easily exceed the €85,000 to €95,000 mark. Five pickup trucks, five stories, and a country on the move. America had its cowboys with pickup trucks; Germany had its tradesmen, farmers, and delivery drivers with their pickup trucks—less glamorous, but just as proud. These vehicles weren't just sold; they helped build Germany. If you enjoyed this video, please subscribe—I regularly post new stories about forgotten German vehicles that deserve to be remembered. Let me know in the comments: Which of these five fascinated you the most? The sturdy Barkas, the rare DKW, or the VW T1, whose price only ever goes in one direction? Up. I look forward to your answers. Until next time – and take care of the old treasures.
