Hi and welcome to the Sailing Adventures of Scamper and the fifth episode in our new series covering our first winter on the hard with Scamper, titled "Preparing and Treating Scamper's Rusting Keel - Sailing Adventures of Scamper". In this video we will be removing some old antifoul and other paint previously applied to Scamper's hull as well as scraping off many crusty rusty cast iron patches before applying Orwatrol, a Rust-inhibiting penetrating primer for overcoating with any paint. She is our 46 year old Colvic Salty Dog 27 born in 1980 that we purchased in December 2024 in Gosport UK. When we purchased Scamper we had no formal sailing training and almost no sailing experience and decided to bring her home to Plymouth in April 2025. We taught ourselves as we have gone along and in July 2025 I completed both my theory and practical RYA day skipper courses and Jacquie completed her competent crew.
