Kleiner Buchstein1990m & Tieflimauer 1820m (Gesäuse)

A long, exciting, and challenging alpine climbing and via ferrata tour to the Kleiner Buchstein (1990m) and Tieflimauer (1820m) in the Gesäuse mountains. The starting point is the Mühlbach parking lot. The marked trail initially leads along the Mühlbach stream to the Otterriegel ridge. From here, the route ascends steeply via a path partially destroyed by an avalanche to the Sparrerriegel signpost. Now traverse westward until you reach the grade II climbing sections, which are clearly marked with red dots. Follow these to the summit of the Kleiner Buchstein (1990m). At the summit, a magnificent panoramic view of the Gesäuse mountains unfolds, encompassing the Schafzähne peaks, the Großer Buchstein, and our next climbing objective, the Tieflimauer. The descent follows the same route back until you reach the Otterriegel signpost again. The trail then leads south along the eastern side of the Kleiner Buchstein, descending to approximately 1400m before climbing steeply to the ridge. The route descends again on the south side of the Tieflimauer to the start of the "Teufelsteig" via ferrata (C). The descent from the Tieflimauer (1,820 m) follows the normal route, which is partially secured with cables (A). The trail continues down the east ridge to the Ennstaler Hütte. From the hut, a steep descent leads via the Bärensattel back to the parking lot. Length of the tour as we did: 19 km and 2,150 m elevation gain.
