Riding the Thermals at Devon & Somerset Gliding Club, 22 May 2021
The weather all week had been horrible. Cold, windy and lots of rain. Saturday started with rain and low cloud but the forecast was optimistic that a temporary respite might provide good conditions later in the day. The first flight was just after midday when the forecast clearance was starting to show. I got airborne at 15:49 by which time the sky was clear, the sun was shining and conditions were booming and launched straight into a thermal. Hard to make headway into a strong north westerly wind but hugely enjoyable riding the thermals up to almost 4000' above the airfield. Devon & Somerset Gliding Club, North Hill Airfield.
