Mrs. Antônia was at home trying to get up from a chair when she fell and fractured her femur. Her family took her to a hospital in Pernambuco, where she spent 24 hours in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) before undergoing surgery on the bone. The procedure was risky due to the patient's age: 114 years old. Three days later, she returned home recovered. The woman's resilience surprised the doctors, who set a new record for the oldest Brazilian to undergo surgery in that region, previously held by a 109-year-old patient. "The world record is 116 years. So she is probably the second oldest in the world," stated orthopedist Marcelo Moreira. Almost a month later, she returned to normal life one step at a time, with the help of physiotherapists and her family. Doralice Metódio, Antônia's daughter, spoke about her mother's will to live: “I think my mother's recovery is largely due to the way she lives.
