La Script | Luz y acento del sur | Álvaro Morte y José Luis Alcaine

We're kicking off the fifth season of La Script with two artists from the south: Álvaro Morte from Córdoba and José Luis Alcaine from Tetouan, a cinematographer and living legend of Spanish cinema. Morte is here to present 'Dos tumbas' (Two Graves), a Netflix miniseries in which he plays an Andalusian mobster with an accent straight out of the Jaén countryside. He's turned 50 and feels the serenity of someone who has triumphed, but he's not resting on his laurels. His career is on the rise and goes far beyond the Professor from 'La casa de papel' (Money Heist): he's performed in London's West End and played Adolfo Suárez in 'Anatomía de un instante' (Anatomy of a Moment), Alberto Rodríguez's series based on the novel by Javier Cercas. José Luis Alcaine was born in Tetouan in 1938, but grew up in Tangier, where his father had a photography studio. There, he fell in love with the African light and became obsessed with the possibility of reading the passage of time by following the shadows of the sun. At almost 88 years old, Alcaine comes to present 'Las delicias del jardín' (The Delights of the Garden) by Fernando Colomo, a comedy filmed entirely with high-end mobile phones, the master's latest experiment. We review the more than 170 films he has worked on as director of photography; he says that's why he no longer misses celluloid and loves experimenting with new formats. He has been the cinematographer for Spanish classics such as 'El sur' (The South), 'Jamón Jamón', 'Belle Epoque', 'Ay, Carmela', and 'Sevillanas' by Saura. And above all, for the great films of Almodóvar such as 'Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios' (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown), 'Átame' (Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!), 'Dolor y gloria' (Pain and Glory), 'La mala educación' (Bad Education)... He has 5 Goya Awards, but none for Almodóvar's films. The master talks to us about all of that… About the commandments of photography, about focus, about 'Citizen Kane' and about his breakfasts of sardines.
