China’s Role in the New Post-COVID Geopolitical Power Order with Jean-Joseph Boillot

The aftermath of the Covid-19 crisis has exposed a silent reorganization of geopolitical power, one unfolding beneath a world order that is straining to hold its shape. Economist Jean-Joseph Boillot joins European Guanxi to examine the structural ruptures now reshaping the post-pandemic landscape. Public confidence in the future has eroded to unprecedented depths. From collapsing fertility rates across both developed and developing economies to the accelerating destabilization brought by rising global temperatures, populations are increasingly skeptical of their governments' capacity to deliver a sustainable trajectory, demographically, ecologically, or economically. At the same time, a wave of technological disruption, amplified by the rapid ascent of artificial intelligence, is redefining the boundaries of innovation and adaptability in what many are calling the 4th industrial revolution. These converging forces, coupled with the gradual withdrawal of traditional regulatory powers such as the United States from global stewardship, appear to have induced a deeper geopolitical realignment. China is emerging, against many expectations, as a pillar of relative stability, while the Global South asserts a more prominent role in the redistribution of international influence. Jean-Joseph BOILLOT is Professor of Social Sciences and hold a PhD in Economics. He worked on Asia as an economist with the CEPII during the 1980-90s. Then he joined as an economic advisor the French ministry of finances and followed extensively the Emerging countries from Central Europe, Former Soviet Union, East and South-east Asia and finally India. He is now an Advisor to the CEPII Business Club on large emerging economies, and beyond India and China he has expanded its research to Africa in the early 2000s and published a well-received book in French: "Chindiafrique", soon to be translated in English. He also introduced in France some concepts of sustainable economics and adapted in French the best-seller "Jugaad Innovation". Dr J.J. Boillot lectures at numerous institutions and is a recognized expert with many public institutions and private businesses. He is co-Chairman of the Euro-India Economic & Business Group (EIEBG) and author of about twenty books on development and International economics.
