There are a few things right out the gate that we were excited about like the price point and the buzz about the professional sound delivery that we had been hearing. We decided to do a little gear review to help others out that were considering this amp. Bruce Egnater. Bruce Egnater has always had his own shop in Michigan US. For over 35 years he has been producing boutique type amps that have developed an impressive following. These amps are well known for delivering great sound and having a great build. Each amp is made with loving care and is designed by a full team of musicians. Like all great things the company was founded to answer a need. Egnater is a guitarist and takes great deal of pride in making these amps with an eye on delivering unmatched quality that other guitarist will enjoy. Of course, the Tweaker is not just for the electric guitar aficionado, they can be used with other instruments. Currently Egnater is working on a new release so we will be following this company closely. The Egnater Tweaker Combo. There are a few things we were impressed by right out the box. Unlike other micro amp models, the Tweaker has a traditional head design, except smaller. The plywood body is covered in a heavy vinyl the mesh cage on the front is made of steel in a basket weave design. At this price point we really did not expect such a well thought out cabinet. Frankly, we expected the typical thin metal cabinet that you find on many of the less expensive models. The tough steel chassis is welded to ensure added durability. At first glance these Tweakers seem to be a rather simple design. It has a 3-band equalizer, gain controls and a master volume control. Then you notice the 5 switches on the front. These 5 switches are where the magic really happens. The switches help to give you the wide range of control that you want to really influence the tonal balance and more. The Sound. The Egnater Tweaker sounds deliver beautifully. You do not get that harsh edge that is piercing the way you do with some amps at this price point. The bright switch is a great opportunity to brighten up some of those humbuckers while the gain setting combined with the tight switch delivers nice control over the bass response. We enjoyed experimenting with the gain control. We took the gains from a nice clean sound to the distorted heavy metal distortion by switching the amp to hot. The gains were impressive. The three options on the EQ moved nicely from mid-range to aggressive smoothly. When you flip to AC you get a nice boxy grind that sounds an awful lot like VOX. We moved on to the vintage-modern switch and found that we liked the vintage sound more but that is our preference, we found that both sounds delivered something just a bit different if you did not pump up the master volume control to fully open. You got the subtle depth on both settings. We reviewed the manual before we got started so we expected that moving the master control to wide open would reduce the tone effectiveness. The manual, which by the way is very informative, was right. Overall. We were impressed, there is nothing negative to say about the Tweaker, it gets the job done, it is built to last, and it delivers great sound. We would like a foot control added but at this price point we do understand why it is not. It is hard to beat the Egnater Tweaker 20 at this price point. This well-designed amp is a great addition to any music studio.
