Preparing Our Derelict Barn for Restoration | Renovation Project (ep.9)

This week at the barn, we continue preparing for the restoration. After a three-hour drive back to the countryside, we settle into our little cosy room in the derelict barn for the night before an early start. There may still be a few spiders sharing the space with us, but it’s starting to feel like a home. With the digger back out, we begin clearing trenches in preparation for the structural engineer’s visit. We’re searching for existing drainage, exposing pipes, and digging a trial inspection pit to uncover the foundations, soil layers, and footing depth. The work doesn’t go completely to plan as we hit the water table and discover the challenges of working with greensand beneath the barn. Sometimes restoring an old building means uncovering problems before you can move forward. There are also the usual moments in between early Sunday mornings, muddy boots, gravel-filled wellies, and the small wins that make this journey so rewarding. Thank you for watching and following along with our derelict barn restoration, barn conversion, and countryside renovation journey. We truly appreciate every like, comment, and subscribe. See you next week! #derelict #barn #renovation #barnconversion #stonebarn #restoration, #renovationproject #diy
