Week 8 -1985: San Antonio Gunslingers at Jacksonville Bulls

Week 8 - Friday, April 12, 1985 Attendance: 32,097, TV: ESPN Larry Mason, subbing for the injured Mike Rozier, ran for 100 yards and one touchdown to lead the Jacksonville Bulls to a come-from-behind 28-17 victory over the San Antonio Gunslingers in a United States Football League game Friday night. Mason, the Bulls' leading rusher last season, carried the ball 16 times, once on a 2-yard touchdown jaunt up the middle early in the final period to give the Bulls a 21-17 lead with 13:31 left to play. Rozier, the former Heisman Trophy winner who joined the Bulls this season, carried only five times for 26 yards before leaving in the second quarter with a hand injury. The Bulls, 3-5, finally clinched the victory with 1:38 to play when quarterback Ed Luther scored on a 4-yard keeper. That capped an eight-play, 49-yard drive which started when Van Jakes intercepted a Gunslingers pass and returned it eight yards. The San Antonio coaching staff protested the interception, but the officials, after watching a television replay, decided the theft was legal. The Gunslingers, 3-5, entered the final period on top by virtue of a 19-yard TD pass from Rick Neuheisel to Jerry Gordon, capping a run-dominated 11-play, 80-yard drive.
