Opinel 12 Saw Review
A short review of No.12 Carbon Steel Folding Saw. The small saw with a 12 cm blade and beechwood handle, it's the perfect tool for work in the garden or for doing some light bushcrafting. #BushcraftEssentials #OpinelSaw #Opinel #review ** The Opinel 12 saw is produced by the renowned French company Opinel, is a popular choice among outdoor enthusiasts, particularly for bushcrafting and woodcutting tasks. This saw is intended for gardeners, for cutting small branches in the orchard, but I have it for my bushcrafting use. I show some of saw's design, functionality, and ecological benefits. The Opinel 12 features a lightweight design, with a blade length of 12 centimeters, making it suitable for cutting small branches and performing detailed work. The blade's thinness contributes to its ability to cut through wood effortlessly, although it may struggle with larger branches due to its size limitation. It has a stainless carbon steel blade, it combines durability with effectiveness. The wooden handle has a good grip grip but it also aligns with ecological values by reducing plastic waste commonly associated with other collapsible (plastic) saws. When working the saw cuts by a pulling motion, requiring careful handling to prevent bending or breaking the thin blade. The saw has Opinel’s patented Virobloc locking mechanism, which ensures safety during use by securely locking the blade in place when opened. Additionally, a hole in the handle allows for attaching a rope for easy carrying and retrieval. I used a colorful rope for better visibility and preventing loss in wooded environments. The Opinel 12 has an ecological benefit. The wooden handle and carbon steel blade contribute to a lower environmental impact compared to plastic alternatives. Once the saw reaches the end of its life, it makes less waste. Despite some advantages, the Opinel 12 saw has limitations. You cannot replace the blade which is is a notable drawback, as users will need to invest in a new saw once the blade becomes dull. Furthermore it is a bit pricy and may be considered slightly more expensive than other options, although the quality and lightweight design could justify the cost.
