Deciding to live at the foot of Mount Gede Pangrango, since 2006, has made Isep Kurnia and his family live side by side with the forest. He conserves the forest by implementing a food forest/talun system. He plants various plants with a layering system, including plantation crops, horticulture and vines. The experience of living in the forest has made him familiar with various wild plants that can be consumed by humans. He also uses the surrounding plants for daily consumption. Concerned about the community's dependence on certain types of vegetables, he created a forest kitchen. He shares his experience of processing wild plants and popularizing them to the community.
