The kidnapping and murder of Henry Segarra, an accountant and leader of the Dominican Popular Movement (MPD), occurred in August 1969. His capture and murder in Dajabón involved José Demetrio Almonte Mayer, an army officer, and civilian hitman Chicho Ventura. They had the complicity of alleged MPD militant Rafael Belliard, who died in 2020, and MPD leader Moisés Blanco Genao, who convinced Segarra to go to Dajabón to supposedly guide some peasant associations. The account of what happened was given by Henry Segarra's brother, Sócrates Segarra, the author of two books on the subject and who has assumed responsibility for finding the remains of the slain MPD leader on behalf of the family. Sócrates Segarra said that Gladys Gutiérrez, Henry's widow, conducted investigations and was deported from the country for reporting the crime and insisting on the search for her husband's body. He explained that Gutiérrez, who was a minister and congresswoman in the PLD government, revealed to him that Blanco Genao was the one who sold out his partner and ended up being an ally of Ramón Pérez Martínez, leader of La Banda, and was in the service of Dr. Joaquín Balaguer, who ended up being the one most responsible for his brother's death. He explained that radio host José Luis Rodríguez was also murdered by poisoning in Dajabón because he insisted every day on Radio Beller to identify those responsible for Henry Segarra's kidnapping and murder. Sócrates described his brother as a noble human being, selfless in material matters, kind, and always smiling, even when he was being tortured. He said he will not rest until he discovers the burial site of Henry Segarra, the hitman who murdered him, Chicho Ventura, and that he has the contact information for the owner of the farm where he was buried.
