TGA Baby Birth Story

It is time to share our birth story with you but mainly to the heart parents that are about to face this next chapter. Before Luca was born all I would see on Instagram was the “perfect” birth stories and the way things “should” happen. I was so happy for everyone but inside I was affected knowing that our story would be far from normal. I hope my video helps our heart community relate a little and know that you’re not alone. I want it to be more about awareness than sadness. Just a little mention, I said that I had an epidural but I actually had a spinal block. I naively hadn’t done much research about having a c-section because I was so fixated on Luca’s journey. I was NOT prepared for the recovery. Below are some things I wish I knew. • You will be able to walk upright again, I promise. For the first week I was stooped over, shuffling around the hospital because I thought “it” would open. Walk as soon as you are able. • When you have the catheter removed make sure to use the toilet as soon as possible. I waited until my bladder was full full and WOW it was intense. Maybe TMI. This does not happen to everyone but just in case. • Make sure to stick with your pain medication. Whatever you are taking it will help you to be more comfortable and make this new journey a little easier. Obviously in reality you’re meant to be resting but having a baby in NICU means not much rest. I was doing between 2-3,000 steps a day just going up and down to see Luca so the pain medication helped. • If you need to move to another hospital like we did 100% book a taxi that has easy access. We booked a black cab because it had a ramp so I didn’t need to bend or twist as much and it was easy to position myself on the seat due to the leg room. This is only what helped me and you may be feeling great afterwards so go off of how you are feeling. Thank you much for being so kind 🫶🏼 Sorry the video is rushed in parts, I wanted to share everything but keep it as short as possible. #birthstory #csection #cardiacbaby #tga #chdawareness #firsttimemom #babyboy #csectionrecovery
