Unveiling the Carrack Halfwood Press
Between 2004-2017 Tom Kughler and I worked together to develop the Halfwood Press line of presses. I was the designer and woodcrafter and Tom was the steel guy, engineering and making them in five sizes ranging from 6-inch to 12-inch wide beds. Together we made and sold over 250 of these in 20 countries. Tom always wanted to step up to 18 inches. In 2014 he presented a half-size model and I made a video to promote it. Twelve years later, in 2026, he and his wife, Margie, finished his masterpiece and sent me a video, which is here, next to the original. I cannot resist adding, "This is the most beautiful press in the world!" I wish I could have one for the Printmaking Museum, although it's not a printing press museum like the others.
