The First Temple Mystery: Why?
Imagine a time before agriculture, before the wheel, and before the first city. Humans are still hunter-gatherers, merely surviving in the wild. Yet, they manage to carve, transport, and erect 15-ton stone pillars to create a monument that challenges everything we know about human history. Welcome to Göbekli Tepe, an archaeological marvel located in the Anatolia region of southeastern Turkey, near Şanlıurfa. Dating back to 9600 BC, this site is nearly 9,000 years older than the Pyramids of Giza and 6,000 years older than Stonehenge. Discovered by German archaeologist Klaus Schmidt in 1994, the massive T-shaped pillars of Göbekli Tepe have turned the traditional timeline of civilization upside down. For decades, we believed that agriculture led to settled villages, which eventually gave birth to religion and temples. But the discoveries at Göbekli Tepe suggest a radical new theory: "First the Temple, then the Village." Did the human desire to worship and gather for rituals actually drive the invention of agriculture? In this documentary, we decode the mysteries of Göbekli Tepe. We explore the terrifying animal symbolism carved into the stones, the controversy surrounding Pillar 43 (The Vulture Stone) and the Younger Dryas comet strike theory, and how this site compares to other ancient settlements like Jericho and Çatalhöyük. We also examine the origins of human worship through the lenses of science, Animism, and major world religions (Islam, Christianity, Judaism, and Hinduism). Finally, we separate fact from fiction, addressing popular myths linking Göbekli Tepe to the Garden of Eden, Atlantis, and Ancient Aliens. Join us as we explore the 11,000-year-old question: Why are we here? Chapters (Timestamps): 00:00 - The Monument That Shouldn't Exist 02:47 - Where is Göbekli Tepe?
