Pourquoi un prince collectionne 800 tomates dans son château ?!

This little-known château houses the largest living tomato collection in France! Today, @FabienVerso introduces you to the Château de la Bourdaisière, in Montlouis-sur-Loire. On this 70-hectare estate, the “Prince Gardener” Louis-Albert de Broglie cultivates a passion for... tomatoes 🍅 Ananas, Zluta Kytice, Voyage, Gargamel… These tomatoes with their eccentric names are carefully arranged by color and alphabetically in the garden. And since the château hosts its annual “Tomato and Flavor Festival” in September, we thought it was the perfect time to take you with us! This collection of nearly 800 varieties, out of approximately 10,000 known worldwide according to the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), demonstrates a true commitment to protecting and sharing these natural treasures. The vegetable garden has been labeled a "National Conservatory" by the CCVS (Conservatory of Specialized Plant Collections) association since 1998. How does the head gardener manage to perpetuate the collection year after year? What does the Fruity Orange variety taste like? We answer all these questions in this report. If you have any other questions, ask them in the comments; we promise! PS: You too can come and discover this exceptional place between the beginning of April and the beginning of November.
