Celebrating Mum’s Birthday in Lake Como & Milan | A Perfect 2-Day Italian Escape

For Mum’s birthday this year, we decided to spend a few days in one of our favourite parts of Italy – Lake Como and Milan. We flew into Milan, picked up our hire car from the airport and headed straight towards Lake Como. The journey itself is easy and scenic, and within an hour you start seeing the beautiful villas, mountains and lake views that have made this area famous around the world. One of the things we wanted to experience this time was seeing Lake Como from the water. Boat hire starts from around €150 in May, although prices can be higher during the summer season. If you are looking for something even more special, there are also helicopter and scenic flight experiences available around the Como area, offering a completely different perspective of the lake and its famous villas. After spending time around the lake, we returned to Milan and enjoyed an evening walk through the city centre. We explored the area around the Duomo, admired the architecture, enjoyed a few Italian treats and simply soaked up the atmosphere of one of Europe's most stylish cities.
