Fruit and Flower Festivals Ambato 2025 @coneltoquedeLuis Ecuador #fiestasambato Historical Review The celebration of the Fruit and Flower Festival was born as a response to the physical and psychological situation in which the city and its inhabitants were left after the earthquake of August 5, 1949, an earthquake that destroyed the city and many of the cantons that at that time formed the Province of Tungurahua. The Festival was then a manifestation of the will of the people of Ambato, who, accepting the price proposed by nature for the beauty and fertility granted to these lands, rose with fervor and enthusiasm in search of tangible answers to the damage suffered. Ideas born in different circles and groups of the city were collected by the Municipality and supported by the Cantonal Agricultural Center, an entity that thanks to the dynamism of its partners, became the axis of the organization of the first festival that took place on February 17, 1951, mainly limited to an agricultural, livestock and industrial fair. It was in 1962, and by Executive Decree No. 586, issued on April 18 and published in the Official Registry No. 136, that the National Government presided by Dr. Carlos Julio Arosemena, and with the prominent citizen of Ambato Don Alfredo Albornoz Sánchez as its Minister of Government, declared the Festival of Fruit and Flowers a national celebration.
