Cathedral Basilica of Notre-Dame de Québec

The Cathedral Basilica of Notre-Dame de Québec is in Old Québec. The cathedral is the primatial church and seat of the Archdiocese of Quebec. It is one of the oldest churches in Canada and originates back to the 17th century. Compared to the Christ Church Cathedral (   • Christ Church Cathedral Montreal  ) and Basilica Mary Queen of the World (   • Basilique-cathédrale Marie-Reine-du-Monde ...  ) in Montreal it is quite small. But nevertheless, a fine example of Neoclassicism architecture. The first cathedral was destroyed in 1759 during the siege of Quebec. It was rebuilt in 1759 based on plans from 1743 as a three-aisled basilica. The interior was designed and built between 1786 to 1822 and richly decorated. In 1843 the façade was redone in a Neo-Classical style in resemblance to Saint-Geneviève in Paris. Only the South tower is finished In 1922 a fire destroyed the cathedral again and rebuilt on original plans. It is the only cathedral in North America with a holy door. It is worth a visit and just a few minutes from the well known Chataeau Frontenac Hotel. Music and Voice by Epidemicsound (https://share.epidemicsound.com/l53n2l)
