(https://comotion.uw.edu/) From CoMotion's popular Fundamentals for Startups series. Patrick Gray spoke about 'Biotech Startups'. Patrick's career has focused on drug discovery for critical diseases. He is passionate about working in small companies with aggressive timelines---Genentech, ICOS, and Macrogenics were each less than 60 employees when he started. He has participated in the discovery and development of numerous therapeutics, including the Hepatitis B vaccine, Interferon-alpha, Interferon-gamma, and the PI3 Kinase inhibitor Idelalisib. Format of the Startup Sessions: The startup sessions will have a topic and an area expert providing key insights and knowledge regarding the topic in a 20-30 minute seminar format. After the seminar, the attendees will break into working sessions to engage with the topic as it relates to them. Then in Winter and Spring Quarters we will have an ELC student presentation on a legal matter pertinent to startups. The Student will present for 20-30 min and then will work with the advising council to answer questions regarding that topic. • Each CoMotion Labs Startup Session will start at 12:00pm, with a 20-30 min seminar, followed by Q&A time for the topic until 1pm. • Each ELC student presentation will start at 1pm, with a 20-30 min lecture, followed by Q&A time for the topic until 2pm. (ELC students only present in Winter and Spring quarters.) • The entire startup session will be open until 3pm for the participants. All seminars will be video captured and live streamed.
