Louisiana Inmate Interpreting Program [Subtitled]

The Louisiana prison system trains hearing inmates how to become sign language interpreters for deaf prisoners. Advocates say it is exploitative. Deaf inmates say they have to serve longer terms because of ineffective communication. This project was filmed in 2018. According to our contacts, inmate interpreters are still being used, but ASL classes may be suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic. ------------------------------ Transcript: https://www.dailymoth.com/blog/louisi... ------------------------------ Community Statement / HEARD Letter to Louisiana DOC: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=218... ------------------------------ **To view this video with SRT captions or have the ability to turn off captions, please view this video on YouTube: https://bit.ly/34AaYoW ------------------------------ ***Deaf Vee Journal (formerly known as DSTidbit News) did a report on the program in 2018.
