EHX Big Muff 2 Tone Wicker vs Green Russian Muff, Op-Amp Big Muff and more! Huge Fuzz Shootout

Today we’re comparing the brand new Electro-Harmonix Big Muff 2 w/Tone Wicker fuzz with a bunch of other EHX Big Muff pedals to find out which is the best! ----- At Thomann: https://www.thomann.de/intl/thlpg_iw0... At Sweetwater: https://sweetwater.sjv.io/LXbvzL ----- The limited edition ‘big box’ Big Muff 2, the “lost dual op-amp” version of the iconic fuzz pedal, came out on a massive wave of hype in the final days of 2025. Next, a few weeks later, came the smaller and more affordable Big Muff 2 Nano – which I promptly purchased and love. Now, a few months down the line, and we have the third iteration of the Big Muff 2 – the Tone Wicker version. This is an excellent course of events, because the Tone Wicker switches on this pedal make it a much more versatile option, and will allow you to not get lost in a band mix. As of now, the Big Muff 2 Tone Wicker model will set you back around $139/€129, so it’s around $20 more expensive than the Nano version. Is it worth it? Well, yes. You get the standard same three controls as every Big Muff here – Volume, Tone, and Sustain – but you also get the Tone Wicker switches. The Wicker switch is a three-way. Set to Off, it does nothing, but switch it to Half or Full to activate more top end clarity in your tone. It’s like a high end filter that lets through more high frequencies, and the more of those you have, the more you’re going to cut through a band mix. The Tone switch gives you the choice of On or Off. On, and the tone stack in the pedal is active, as normal. Switch this to Off, and you deactivate the tone stack, which gives you a much fuller, less scooped distortion fuzz sound with a distinctly different tonal character too. You can use the Tone and Wicker switches separately or together, so there’s a huge range of tones on offer here, or you can set the Tone to On and the Wicker to Off and you get an identical circuit to the standard Big Muff 2. So why wouldn’t you go for this version, in that case? Well, there’s still a bunch of amazing classic Big Muff models that you could go for instead, and here, we’re going to shoot out some of my favorites against the Big Muff 2 Tone Wicker. First, we’ll start with a straight comparison against the Big Muff 2 Nano to hear how identical the two pedals sound until you start playing with the Tone Wicker functions. After that I’ve got a fuzz treat for you, as we shoot the Big Muff 2 Tone Wicker out against three of my absolute favorite classic Big Muff pedals: the original Big Muff Nano, the Op-Amp Big Muff (famous for delivering Smashing Pumpkins and grunge tones), and the doom and sludge lovers’ delight that is the Green Russian Big Muff. These are all amazing – and tonally diverse – takes on the classic Big Muff circuit, and all come in at significantly cheaper than the Big Muff 2… but which sounds best? Well, it’s time to find out! Here, we’re doing some extensive tonal tweaking as I run a couple of loops – one played with the bridge humbucker of my Epiphone Les Paul, and the other with the bridge single coil of my Fender Telecaster – into the front end of my Hughes & Kettner AmpMan amplifier and we really get to hear to true versatility of these fuzz behemoths. Enjoy the various fuzz tones, then, and let me know which is your favorite Big Muff in the comments!
