Applied Animal Feeding Substituion Part 3

This video walks through the following practice problem: Lambda Feedlots in central Nevada feeds out lambs for restaurants in Reno and Las Vegas. The lambs require 4.1 lbs DM, 1500 Kcal NEg, 0.67 lbs crude protein, 0.01 lbs phosphorus, and 0.02 lbs of calcium daily. The feedlot has access to ryegrass hay pellets (use ryegrass hay), wet potato waste, corn gluten meal, 41%, dicalcium phosphate and ground limestone. Ammonium chloride is fixed at 0.5% of the ration DM (hint: how many pounds of ammonium chloride is 0.5% of 4.1 lbs of DM). How many pounds of each ingredient is needed to meet the lamb’s daily requirements? Report final amounts of each ingredient on an as fed basis (you will solve on a DM basis, need to convert final weights from pounds of DM to pounds of as fed). NOTE: In the feed library, NEg is expressed as Mcal/cwt. To convert to kcal/lb, simply add a zero. For example, if a feed is 25 Mcal/cwt of NEg, that would convert to 250 kcal/lb.
