MY FRIEND MANOLIS (SUZUKI V STROM 650) description The Idaean Cave (archaic Ἰδαῖον Ἄντρον) or Arsenio is a cave on a plateau on Mount Ida (Psiloritis) in Crete, where according to Greek mythology Zeus, hence the name "Cretan-born", was raised from infancy. Its entrance was guarded by the Kouretes, mythical figures, and every time the little Zeus cried, they would bang their swords on the shields they held so that Kronos would not hear his cries. According to another version, the Kouretes danced a very intense and fast dance, which made their heavy armor bang loudly and cover the crying of the infant Zeus. Today this cave, also called "Spiliara" or "Cave of the Shepherdess", is an archaeological site in which excavations have been carried out since 1884 and objects have been discovered even from the Minoan era, such as archaic statuettes, bottles, bronze shields, etc. which are kept in the Heraklion Museum. Ἰδαῖον Ἄντρον) ή Αρσένιο είναι σπήλαιο σε οροπέδιο στο όρος Ίδη (Ψηλορείτης) της Κρήτης, στο οποίο κατά την ελληνική μυθολογία ανατράφηκε ο Δίας, εξ ου λεγόμενος και «Κρηταγενής», από τη βρεφική του ηλικία. Την είσοδό του φύλαγαν οι Κουρήτες, μυθικές φιγούρες, και κάθε φορά που ο μικρός Δίας έκλαιγε, χτύπαγαν τα σπαθιά τους πάνω στις ασπίδες που κρατούσαν για να μην ακούσει το κλάμα του ο Κρόνος. Κατά μια άλλη εκδοχή, οι Κουρήτες χόρευαν ένα χορό πολύ έντονο και γρήγορο, που έκανε τη βαριά πανοπλία τους να χτυπάει δυνατά και να σκεπάζει το κλάμα του βρεφικού Δία. Σήμερα το σπήλαιο αυτό που ονομάζεται και «Σπηλιάρα» ή «Σπήλιος της βοσκοπούλας» είναι αρχαιολογικός χώρος στον οποίο έχουν διενεργηθεί ανασκαφές από το 1884 και έχουν ανακαλυφθεί αντικείμενα ακόμα και από τη μινωική εποχή, όπως αρχαϊκά αγαλμάτια, φιάλες, χάλκινες ασπίδες, κ.ά. που φυλάσσονται στο Μουσείο Ηρακλείου. Στη διαδρομή από την Κνωσσό προς το Ιδαίον Άντρον υπάρχει και ο αρχαιολογικός χώρος της Ζωμίνθου, όπου ανακαλύφθηκε μία σημαντική (σύμφωνα με τις έως τώρα έρευνες) μινωική εγκατάσταση.
