Scandals, Wild Nights, and the US Navy In Japan

As a journalist I was forever being sent to the US military bases in Japan looking for trouble - occasionally to film aboard ships and planes, but much more often covering protests by enraged Japanese locals and court cases arising from US service members alleged sexual misconduct when out on the town at night. We visit Yokosuka, the huge US naval base just outside Tokyo, to look at the many kinds of trouble that US sailors onshore, Japanese women, and even visitors can get into. The US bases do keep Japan safe from China and North Korea - and the exciting cultural mix around the base sure makes for an fun night out ….but sometimes things can go horribly wrong. 00:45 Welcome to Yokosuka 01:26 The Attack in Okinawa that started it all 02:29 More tragedies 03:07 The true scale of the violence 04:27 Americana 05:13 Visit at the Base 05:47 Entertainment for GIs and the story of Ameko 06:48 When East meets West at the Pub - what could possibly go wrong? 08:38 R&R around the Base on a Friday night 09:55 Beware of Shake Downs and Scams 11:00 The sailor who went AWOL as a dealer 13:19 Boat tours - US naval power up close
