Over time, he began to hear the voices of snakes, and strange, and sometimes quite frightening, things happened around him. One day, a stranger came to the orphanage for Tom. He introduced himself as a teacher at a certain school and asked to transfer the boy to their school. At Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Tom was placed in Slytherin House. The founder, like Tom, could understand the language of snakes. This fact sparks Tom's interest in learning more about his origins. After a long search, Tom discovers a connection to the Riddle family and also learns that his biological mother's father was a wizard named Gaunt. By his fifth year, at 16, Tom is among the top students at Hogwarts and is appointed Head Boy of Slytherin House. Meanwhile, mysterious and sometimes terrifying events begin to occur at the school, including the death of a student. Gradually, like-minded individuals gather around Tom, and Tom Marvolo Riddle himself rearranges the letters in his name and calls himself Lord Voldemort.
