Three years ago, OpenAI released its groundbreaking ChatGPT-4 model to users. Since then, artificial intelligence has become one of the most important topics of public debate worldwide, as well as a subject of immense excitement. Will the technology of so-called large language models—which include ChatGPT and its competitors, Gemini, Claude, and Grok—really radically change the world? Are they merely linguistic calculators, or perhaps systems endowed with intelligence? And if so, is this intelligence similar to human intelligence? But even if we are dealing with algorithms that only mimic human thought, how profoundly will they change our social lives—both positively and negatively? We invite you to a conversation between editor Marcin Rotkiewicz (Polityka weekly) and Professor Przemysław Kazienko, a computer scientist at Wrocław University of Science and Technology. Professor Przemysław Kazienko leads three research groups at Wrocław University of Science and Technology: ImpactAI, which studies the impact of AI on humans, including the manipulation of large language models; Emognition, which focuses on the recognition of affective states, well-being, wearable technology, and biological signals, including in medicine; and HumaNLP, which explores the human perspective in text processing and develops large language model technologies, including the Polish PLLuM.
