A tabacaria | Ciclo de Cinema e Psicanálise

In each edition, the Cinema and Psychoanalysis Cycle features a debate about a feature film (fiction or documentary) with a contributor from the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper and a guest psychoanalyst from the Brazilian Psychoanalytic Society of São Paulo (SBPSP). Afterwards, the audience can participate with questions, integrating new perspectives on the work discussed. In the #MISemCASA season, the editions are bi-weekly, and the public can watch the film in advance on streaming platforms. In the second edition of the Cinema and Psychoanalysis Cycle in February, the film discussed will be The Tobacco Shop (Der Trafikant, dir. Nikolaus Leytner, Germany, 2018, 117 min, 16 years, available on Telecine Play, Looke, Apple iTunes and Google Play), which revolves around Freud's relationship with a 17-year-old boy in the city of Vienna at the time of the rise of Nazism. The discussion will be moderated by Luciana Saddi and will feature guests psychoanalyst Maria da Penha Zabani Lanzoni and film critic Cássio Starling Carlos. The feature film received significant recognition at the 23rd edition of the São Paulo Jewish Film Festival in 2019, in addition to standing out at other film festivals such as the Edinburgh International Film Festival and the Cleveland Film Festival. The film also received four nominations (best actor, best supporting actress, best costume design, and best soundtrack) at the Austrian Film Awards. About the film The Tobacconist (Der Trafikant, dir. Nikolaus Leytner, Germany, 2018, 117 min, 16+, available on Telecine Play, Looke, Apple iTunes and Google Play) Franz (Simon Morzé), a 17-year-old, works as an apprentice in a tobacconist's shop where Sigmund Freud (Bruno Ganz) is a customer. Gradually, they establish a strong friendship. Upon learning that the friendly client is a renowned psychoanalyst, the boy asks for love advice. Although both have difficulty understanding the mysteries of femininity, Freud addresses the boy's issues related to sexuality, such as impotence and fear, during their brief encounter. In parallel, but not solely as a backdrop, political tension grows with the rise of Nazism in Austria.
