Hagia Sophia in Constantinople is a world-famous and unique monument of Byzantine architecture, a symbol of the "golden age" of the Roman Empire. Hagia Sophia was called the "Great Church" and was the largest church in the Christian world until the fall of Byzantium. But the value of Hagia Sophia lies not only in the scale of the structure, but in the theological meanings embedded in its architecture and interior decoration.
