Restoring our House in Rural Japan | Building a Bridge to the Annex
Welcome back! and if you’re new, we're very happy to have you here :) This video continues our Japanese house restoration journey in rural Shimane, Japan. We’re back at our traditional Japanese house (a kominka and former akiya), carrying on with hands-on DIY restoration work as we slowly care for and restore the property. In this video we take on a DIY carpentry project connecting the main house and the annex - one of those practical jobs that comes with restoring and living in a traditional home in the Japanese countryside. It’s real, sometimes messy DIY, and very much part of day-to-day life here. As always, this isn’t a step-by-step tutorial or a dramatic before-and-after. It’s an honest look at ongoing DIY carpentry, problem-solving, and restoration at our own kominka akiya, mixed with everyday rural life. We are also very fortunate to participate in a local Shinto shrine festival, which is a reminder that restoring a house in Japan is closely tied to community, place, and people. If you’ve been following along, this is the next chapter in our Japanese house restoration. If you’re new, this video shows what it really looks like to care for and restore a traditional Japanese house in rural Japan. Thanks for watching and we hope you enjoy the video :) #JapaneseHouseRestoration #Kominka #Akiya #TraditionalJapaneseHouse #RuralJapan #DIYRestoration #DIYCarpentry #JapaneseCountryside #RestoringAHouse #LifeInJapan
