Scientists Compared Jamestown DNA to the Mayflower Pilgrims — Whose Blood Won America?

In 1607 came Jamestown. In 1620 came the Mayflower. Two English ships, thirteen years apart, founded two very different Americas: the profit-seeking Cavalier south and the Puritan north. But who were these settlers really, and whose descendants actually spread across the modern United States? Using forensic genetics, the Bryc 2015 ancestry study, Y-DNA and mtDNA haplogroups, and the colonial record, we put the Jamestown colonists and the Mayflower Pilgrims side by side and follow where their bloodlines went.
