NORILSKIY NICKEL, ARCTIC CONTAINER VESSEL

Norilskiy Nickel is the world's first commercial vessel, which can operate independently year-around in Siberia without ice-breaker assistance. It can move 3 knots in 1,5 m multiyear ice field. The prototype vessel and her four sister vessels have now been operating autonomously year round in this route for several years.The project was a real multi-site project. The steel manufacturing of forward part was done in AY Germany and the grand blocks for aft part were made in Turku block factory hull assembly. The final outfitting was done in Helsinki Shipyard. The delivery of the prototype vessel was in Murmansk, April 2006, after most successful ice-trials in Kara Sea and Yenisey River.
