Explore The Beauty Of Persian Carpets At Iran's Carpet Museum During Nowruz 1403 - موزه فرش ایران
Situated in Tehran, near Laleh Park, and founded in 1976, the Iran Carpet Museum displays a rich variety of Persian carpets from across Iran's history, ranging from the 16th century to contemporary times. Covering approximately 3,400 square meters (about 37,000 square feet), the museum awaits official confirmation of its size. It also features a library holding around 7,000 volumes. Designed by Abdol-Aziz Mirza Farmanfarmaian, the museum's architecture incorporates a perforated structure resembling a loom, providing both aesthetic homage to carpet art and functional shade against the intense summer heat. The Tehran Carpet Museum of Iran is among the world's rare museums solely dedicated to carpets, offering a unique opportunity to appreciate Persian carpets in their home country. History of the Tehran Carpet Museum of Iran: Commissioned by Farah Pahlavi, Iran's last queen before the 1979 revolution, the museum reflects her deep interest in promoting Iranian arts and culture. Architect Abdol-Aziz Farmanfarmaian designed the museum to resemble a carpet loom, offering shade and architectural intrigue. Opening in February 1976, the museum aimed to preserve carpet weaving traditions and gather exceptional carpets nationwide. The museum's first floor showcases a permanent collection of carpets, while the second floor hosts rotating exhibits. Initially housing a limited selection, the museum now exhibits around 200 carpets, some dating back to the 9th century.
