Hi! I am Kusum. This is our wedding full video. I am Nepali American and my husband is Chinese American. We finally got married in Nepal :) If you are new, Nepali Hindu Wedding are very elaborate ceremony with many rituals and literally lasts entire day. We were legit exhausted at the end LOL 😂😂 🌸 Janti (The Wedding Procession) 🌸 The groom arrives with his musical band (Panche Baaja) and family. The bride’s family meets them at the entrance with Diyo and Kalash, invoking Lord Ganesh for blessings. You will see a copper vessel (Kalash) and a traditional lamp (Diyo). A small representation of Lord Ganesh is often placed or drawn on the Kalash to signify his presence. The groom is welcomed by the bride’s father and brother with a flower garland and a tika. The groom and his family will then take their seats. 🌸 Bridal Entry & Swoyambar 🌸 The bride walks down the aisle for Swoyambar. Swoyambar is the "Choosing of the Spouse”. The bride and Groom exchange the grass garlands (Dubo ko Mala) and rings. A grass garland is sacred, as it embodies traditional Vedic elements of purity, divine blessing, protection, and the legitimacy of vows 🍀 Keta ko Jaggeko Kaam (Groom’s Puja/Ritual)🍀 Bride proceeds to greet the guests while the groom sits in the Mandap (Jagge) with the priest. He performs various purification rituals and invites the deities to witness the union. This sets the spiritual foundation for the marriage and is considered a preliminary Mandap Ritual. 🍀 Khutta Dhune and Kanyadaan 🍀 An emotional part for the bride's parents. During Khutta Dhune, the bride’s family washes the couple's feet as a sign of respect and devotion. During Kanyadaan, the father and mother of the bride place the bride’s hand in the groom’s hand, officially "gifting" her to the new family. This is usually done over a copper vessel with holy water. 🌸 Bridal Outfit Change 🌸 The bride changes from their Swoyambar outfit into the formal Wedding Saree provided by the groom's side in Saipata. This signifies her transition into her new family. 🌸 Jagge ko Kaam (Sacred Vow Taking) 🌸 This is the legal and spiritual "binding”. During Phera or Saptapadi (seven steps in Sanskrit), the couple walks around the Agni, the holy fire, that bears witness to the seven vows of their marriage ❤️ 🍀First Vow: Nourishment & Livelihood (Commitment to basic needs, survival, and stability of the household) 🍀Second Vow: Strength & Support (Physical, emotional, and mental support) 🍀Third Vow: Prosperity & Growth through honest and ethical means. 🍀Fourth Vow: Happiness & Harmony (Emotional bond, respect, and joy) 🍀Fifth Vow: Family & Responsibility (Cultivate love and respect at home, and raise a family with care and values, and honor the social duties) 🍀Sixth Vow: Health and Longevity 🍀Seventh Vow: Lifelong Companionship & Loyalty (devotion, loyalty, friendship, trust, and unity) 🌸 Jutta Lukaune (Shoe Hiding Ritual) 🌸 This is a Nepali playful, non-religious wedding custom in which the bride’s sisters, cousins, or friends secretly steal the groom’s shoes. After the wedding ceremony, the groom offers cash or a gift to negotiate/bargain with the girls to get the shoes back. 🌸 Bidai (The Farewell) 🌸 The bride says goodbye to her childhood home. Bride’s family feed them yogurt for best wishes. It’s tradition for her brother to carry her on his back to send her off to her new home.
