Lesson 5: For August 1, 2026 “ALL FOR THE GLORY OF GOD” Saturday, July 25 READ FOR THIS WEEK’S STUDY: 1 Corinthians 8; Acts 15:20; 1 Corinthians 9:1-6; 10:5-22; Deuteronomy 6:4-5; Mark 12:28-31. MEMORY VERSE: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31). Chapters 8–10 of 1 Corinthians conclude the discussion of sexuality begun in chapters 5 and 6 and simultaneously present Paul’s answers to specific questions posed in a letter he had received from the Corinthians (1 Cor. 7:1). These answers will dominate the rest of 1 Corinthians. The content and nature of 1 Corinthians 7 indicate that sexual immorality (chapters 5–7) and idolatry (chapters 8–10) are related themes. In fact, they are often mentioned together in the New Testament (see Acts 15:20, 29; 21:25; 1 Cor. 6:9; Eph. 5:5; Col. 3:5; Rev. 21:8; 22:15). In general, Paul addresses the problem of sexual immorality in 1 Corinthians 5-7, while his main concern in chapters 8-10 is the issue of idolatry. The apostle states that Christians must flee from both (1 Cor. 6:18; 10:14). Last week we saw that Christians can avoid sexual immorality because they are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19-20).
