Villahermosa ¿Qué hacer? 4K / Costo X Destino
This time I visited Villahermosa, the capital of Tabasco, where I was amazed by the number of museums, the beauty of its natural surroundings, and its delicious food. I began my tour in the city center. There, I enjoyed a refreshing pozol to cool off, climbed to the lookout point of the Torre del Caballero (Knight's Tower), and visited the Casa de los Azulejos (House of Tiles), which houses the history museum; the Casa Siempre Viva (House of Always Living), the first hotel in all of Tabasco, where each room had its own bathroom; and the Carlos Pellicer Cámara House Museum, where you can learn more about the life and work of this Tabasco native in his birthplace. Afterward, I had some delicious pejelagarto (alligator gar) flautas and a Matalí spritz made with a local plant similar to hibiscus at Cevichería Tabasco. The Carlos Pellicer Cámara Regional Museum of Anthropology houses the only smiling Olmec head found to date. It also contains the Mayan stela that gave rise to the theory that the world would end in 2012. Cachacacao is the name of the University House of Cacao and Chocolate, where you can learn about the history and origin of this seed in a fun and technological way. It also features virtual reality and immersive experiences. And what would this visit during baseball season be without going to a game? Of course, I took advantage of this opportunity and watched the Olmecs of Tabasco play against the Pirates of Campeche. The hotel where I stayed that night was the Gamma in Villahermosa, very nice, clean, and with super friendly staff. The next morning I had green tripe stew for breakfast at the Pino Suárez Market, and from there I went to see the Cathedral of the Lord of Tabasco. The adventure continued at Yumká, a nature reinterpretation center that promotes species conservation and where you can explore three ecosystems: the savanna, the rainforest, and the lagoon. Of course, I couldn't miss La Venta Park Museum, home to three of the 17 colossal Olmec heads discovered to date, as well as other important pre-Hispanic artifacts. Across from it is the José Narciso Rovirosa Andrade Natural History Museum, where you can see Papillón, a beloved, large crocodile who lived at La Venta Park Museum and was taxidermied after his death at the request of the public.
