Two Hours in Lydney

Lydney is a small town on the edge of the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire. It has a nearby 19th century-built harbour lying on the bank of the River Severn. The harbour was built by the Severn & Wye Railway Company for the export of iron and coal from the Forest of Dean. Now very much a tourist attraction with a steam railway running from here to Lydney Town station and terminating at Parkend. It is operated by the Dean Forest Railway. Lydney people class themselves as Severnsiders, albeit still speaking with the distinct Forest dialect.
