Ambassador Flake: Just as the Turkish Grand National Assembly is taking Sweden's NATO membership application seriously, the US Congress is also reviewing foreign military sales and playing a major role in this process, which I think is a very good thing. Therefore, it's good that Congress is taking this matter into consideration. President Biden wrote a letter to Congress, stating his intention to move forward on this matter. The current process can be described as follows: The US administration notifies Congress of its intention to move forward with the military sale. If Congress doesn't object, the sale goes ahead. Therefore, we probably won't see a vote in Congress; there's no need for one. A vote will only be held if there is opposition. So, the point we've reached is satisfactory, and I speak frequently with my old colleagues in Congress. Frankly, they attach great importance to Sweden's NATO membership.
