INFECTION, SEPSIS AND SEPTIC SHOCK

Sepsis is common in hospitalized patients and remains among the top causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. The definitions of sepsis have evolved over the last couple of decades, and there is overlap with conditions like infection, systemic inflammatory response syndrome and shock. Further, some older terms like severe sepsis can make it confusing to understand and grade sepsis severity. In this video I will explain how infection can evolve into sepsis and how to recognize sepsis, and septic shock. Management of sepsis including hemodynamic resuscitation, vasopressor/inotrope support and management of underlying infection are also discussed in detail.
